Just as elite athletes spend countless hours training their body's, they must also train their minds in order to achieve peak performance. There is not one roadmap for everyone to achieve success - you must craft your own combination of positivity, motivation, and discipline. 

The brain needs a healthy balance of:

1) The accelerator (engagement, drive, arousal)

2) The cruise control (routine, persistence, general mind-state)

3) The brakes (mindfulness, reflection, sleep)
